Cricket: Punjab Kings appoint Ricky Ponting as the new Head Coach till IPL 2028
Punjab Kings, on Wednesday, announced Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting as their new head coach from the 2025 Indian Premier League season onwards on a four-year contract. Ponting, 49, had previously served as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals and now will be replacing fellow countryman Trevor Bayliss. Apart from Delhi Capitals, the former Australian captain has also been the coach of Mumbai Indians in the past. As per reports, Ponting will take a call on the rest of the support staff.
Ponting’s exit was confirmed by Delhi Capitals in July this year. Starting in 2018,Ponting had a seven-year stint with DC before stepping down following a period of mixed results. Under Ponting, the team reached the final in 2020 season and he also led Capitals to the playoffs in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Ponting had earlier served as Mumbai Indians head coach in the cash-rich league and it was under him that MI won the 2015 season.
Punjab Kings New Captain
Shikhar Dhawan announced retirement earlier this year and as a result, the franchise will also be looking to appoint a new captain. England all rounder Sam Curran did lead PBKS for a few games in IPL 2023, it will be interesting to see who is selected as the new skipper after auction.
