Will MS Dhoni play in the next season of the IPL?

MS Dhoni and his team (CSK) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 91 runs in match 55 of the IPL 2022 edition at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday evening (May 08). Chennai, the four-time and defending champs, is still in the playoff race after their big win, but their prospects of progressing remain slim.

MS Dhoni’s cricket career may be coming to an end, but he is still one of the finest keepers in the game. He started the current season as a wicketkeeper-batsman, handing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. However, with the defending champions failing to find their feet, the seasoned cricketer was once again relied upon to lead the team.

Will MS Dhoni play the next IPL?

Danny Morrison recently questioned Dhoni about his IPL prospects. He changed the subject by saying, “The yellow jersey will surely be worn by me. You’ll have to wait and see if the yellow jersey is this one or another.”

With Dhoni continuing to contribute to the Chennai team, the question of his future with the club looms large in the thoughts of Chennai supporters, who will definitely want to see their favorite captain stay for another season. Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar believes CSK skipper MS Dhoni would play another season before retiring from franchise cricket.

Shoaib Akhtar said that it’s impossible to foresee what Dhoni will do because he’s capable of doing anything. He has a reputation for doing so, and he’s a fantastic individual. Shoaib added that he and many others admire Dhoni. Shoaib believes Dhoni will play another season before calling it a career. He also added that Dhoni can be a member of the management.

Akhtar also stated that the team must now focus on the future, since several players are nearing the end of their individual careers. In the end, he said that franchises must begin to look beyond players like Dhoni and Kohli. There’s also the star power and emotional connection with the two huge personalities, and teams must plan ahead and consider all alternatives.
