Players Who Have Played For Two Countries In ICC Cricket World Cup

ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has begun in India with the best teams in the world competing against each other. The mega event takes place once in 4 years. However, there are some  players who are born in a nation but are playing for other nation. In ODI World Cup history, there have been such cricketers who have played for two different teams. Here’s a list of five such players.

1. Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan has played for both England and Ireland cricket team. Morgan was born in Ireland. During the 2007 World Cup, he was part of the Ireland cricket team and later on started playing for England cricket team. Under his captaincy, England won the 2019 cricket world cup.

2. Anderson Cummins

Anderson Cummins initially played for West Indies and won man of the match award during India vs West Indies match in the 1992 World Cup match. Later, Cummins starting playing for Canada team during 2007 World Cup.
   

3. Kepler Wessels

South Africa born Kepler Wessels was the first player to play for two different nations in World Cup matches. During the 1983 World Cup, he played for Australia. He played a total of three matches for Australia. When South Africa’s ban was lifted and they played in 1992 World Cup, Wessels was also part of their team.

4. Ed Joyce

Unlike Eoin Morgan, Ed Joyce initially played for England. He made his World Cup debut in 2007 for England. He later started playing for his native country Ireland.

Joyce represented Ireland in the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. His 84-run knock against West Indies helped Ireland chase down a mammoth 300+ score in the 2015 World Cup group game. He scored his first ever World Cup century in the same World Cup during Ireland’s group fixture versus Zimbabwe.

5. Roelof van der Merwe

Born in South Africa, Roelof van der Merwe initilly played for South Africa and also represented them in T20 World Cup 2009. In World Cup 2023, Merwe is playing for the Netherlands team.
