Here’s what Joe Biden had to say to PM Modi in their First Phone Call after US Elections 2020
PM Narendra Modi spoke to United States President Elect Joe Biden on Tuesday and congratulated him on the big victory in the recent elections. Modi reiterated India’s firm commitment to the strategic partnership with US and further discussed the shared priorities and concerns of the two countries. India’s PM also conveyed his congratulations to Vice-President Elect Kamala Harris and added that her success is a matter of great pride and inspiration for the Indian-American community.
Spoke to US President-elect @JoeBiden on phone to congratulate him. We reiterated our firm commitment to the Indo-US strategic partnership and discussed our shared priorities and concerns – Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region.

I also conveyed warm congratulations for VP-elect @KamalaHarris. Her success is a matter of great pride and inspiration for members of the vibrant Indian-American community, who are a tremendous source of strength for Indo-US relations.

In response, Biden thanked PM Modi and spoke about strengthening and expanding India-US strategic relationship in the statement on the phone call. He further said that he wants to work closely with India on shared global challenges, including the pandemic and heath crisis, the threat of climate change, global economic recovery , strengthening democracy at home and abroad, maintaining a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The president elect expressed his desire to strengthen and expand India-USA strategic partnership alongside the first vice-president of South Asian descent.
Trump’s Refusal to Concede
Biden shattered Trump’s dream of a second term although the latter still has not conceded the loss and is blaming fraud in voting for his loss. Modi had good relations with President Trump and the US President’s term also includes the Howdy Modi event in which Modi endorsed Trump’s re-election during his speech. Now it remains to be seen how Biden-Modi take the relations forward and how will the Biden Administration work with India on Covid-19, Economy, Climate Change and other matters.
