Chris Gayle reveals why he didn’t participate in the IPL 2022

When we hear the name, Chris Gayle, all those sixes and those boundaries come to our mind that we saw. Chris Gayle is a legendary T20 player who holds several records. He has lit up the IPL countless times with spectacular runs. Not to mention, he still has the season’s top individual score of 175 not out, which was scored against the Pune Warriors. 

Gayle, who turns 43 this year, is widely considered as one of professional cricket’s most explosive batters. Gayle, on the other hand, chose to withdraw from the mega auction ahead of the IPL this year. The star did not enter his name in the pool, which shocked many because he is still playing franchise cricket. The West Indies star has finally stated why he did not want to participate in the IPL 2022.

Chris Gayle revealed about not playing IPL

Chris Gayle claims he was not treated with the respect he deserved. He stated that he has contributed much to cricket and the IPL. His bat was responsible for many spectacular performances, and he deserves credit for that. Gayle stated that he was not being treated with the respect that he deserved. This is why he has opted not to participate in the IPL this season.

However, in the end of the interview with UK’s Mirror, Gayle said that he will return in IPL 2023 because they need him. He also stated that he would love to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings as he had a fantastic journey with those teams.

Gayle’s journey in IPL

The West Indian has played for three teams in the tournament: Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab/Punjab Kings. His finest period in the league came with the RCB, when he built a fantastic batting order with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

His most notable period was when he was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011. He batted 84 innings for the team, with a 152.7 strike rate, with five centuries and 19 fifties. He was signed up by Punjab Kings for INR 2 crore in 2018, after going unsold twice at the auction. In 41 games, he scored 1339 runs for the Punjab Kings.

Gayle has stated that he is ready for all the challenges in the future as he loves to explore and wants to win the title with RCB or PBKS in the next season of IPL.
