Unmukt Chand Becomes First Indian Male Cricketer to Play in Big Bash League

Former Indian cricketer Unmukt Chand will be joining the Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming T20 competition in Australia. The 28-year-old has become the first Indian male cricketer to sign up for the Big Bash League. Earlier this year, Chand had decided to retire from cricket which allowed him to participate in leagues all over the world, including the BBL as he was no longer contracted with the BCCI.

Indian Women’s Cricketers have been playing leagues around the world for quite some time, but India’s male cricketers are currently not allowed to play in Foreign leagues. Chand said that it was not easy and it is very difficult to accept that he will not be playing for the country anymore. He further added that he enjoys playing in the United States and it is a great opportunity for him that he can play all the leagues around the world. Chand said that he loves watching the Big Bash and he always wanted to play here and win championship for his team.

Unmukt Chand Led U-19 Team To WC Win

Under Chand’s leadership, India won the Under-19 World Cup in 2012. He has also represented India A and played for franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Melbourne Renegades Manager James Rosengarten said that it is great to have Unmukt on board and all of them are looking forward to see what the Indian cricketer can do as a Renegade.
