Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson Fined ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate Against CSK
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined ₹12 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his team’s slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. The fine was issued in accordance with the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, and as it was the team’s first offence of the season, Samson was the only player to be fined.
According to a statement released by IPL, “Rajasthan Royals have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday.”

Although the fine serves as a warning for Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan Royals captain will undoubtedly be more pleased with the team’s performance against Chennai Super Kings. The team managed to secure a three-run victory against CSK, denying MS Dhoni a six or a four off the final ball of the match.
Much of the credit for the victory goes to Sandeep Sharma, who delivered two perfect yorkers in the final over of the game. One outside off-stump to Jadeja, and the other to Dhoni, leaving CSK needing six runs off two balls. This came after Dhoni had hit Sharma for two sixes earlier in the same over.

“The bowlers kept their cool at the end and bowled really well, we also held on to our catches. I don’t have good memories at Chepauk, never won here and wanted to win today. The ball was gripping and hence, we brought Zampa in as the impact player,” said Samson after the match.
The victory took RR to the top of the IPL 2023 points table with three wins in four outings. The best side on paper has delivered on the field too. Although Samson got out for a two-ball duck, he will hope to get back amongst the runs and maintain the winning momentum for his team. The Rajasthan Royals will face the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, and Samson will be hoping to lead his team to another victory, as they look to continue their impressive start to the IPL 2023 season.
