IPL 2022: MS Dhoni hands possession of CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja

On Thursday, MS Dhoni, who has captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the league’s inception in 2008, handed over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. The news was made just two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season. As a four-time winner, Dhoni may be playing his last IPL.

According to a statement made by the CSK, Dhoni will continue to play for the Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond. MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the responsibility of the Chennai Super Kings to Ravindra Jadeja, who would be in charge of the team. He is the third player to lead the Chennai Super Kings. Jadeja has been with the team since 2012. This season and in the future, Dhoni will play for the Chennai Super Kings.

Unexpected decision by MS Dhoni

Nobody expected Dhoni to hand over the mantle to Jadeja before IPL 15. The 40-year-old, on the other hand, continues to wow everyone by making major phone calls seemingly out of nowhere. Many former cricketers and analysts had previously identified Jadeja as Dhoni’s replacement at the CSK camp. Nobody could have predicted a dramatic change of guard just two days before the start of the IPL 2022 season.

Jadeja’s last captaincy and latest record

On October 28, 2007, Jadeja captained Saurashtra Under-19 against Mumbai Under-19 at the Western Railway Ground in Rajkot as part of the Vinoo Mankad tournament. In the new ICC Test rankings for all-rounders revealed on Wednesday, Jadeja recovered the top place from West Indies’ Jason Holder. After his 175 runs and nine wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali earlier this month, Jadeja had gone to the top of the rankings.
