SNAPSHOT: Williamson is upset with his own poor form in IPL 2022.

The Downfall of Kane Williamson

Many felt that their squad was well-rounded and balanced after the auction, but lacked that touch of quality in key areas, and that they had failed to replace the star dust of David Warner and Rashid Khan, who had left the team. Their season began with a string of losses, and the rot appeared to have set in. Rahul Tripathi’s and youngster Umran Malik’s form then turned things around, propelling them up the table and into playoff contention.

The captain of the Sunrisers, Kane Williamson, had an unmemorable season. He’s made up 199 runs in his first ten innings, averaging less than a run per ball. His Total Match Impact is -85 this season, which is the lowest of any player in the tournament. It’s been his Powerplay returns, in particular, that have been so bad. Only a few teams could cope with 101 runs from 127 deliveries, averaging only 17. In the history of the IPL, no batter has ever scored like that in the Powerplay after facing so many deliveries in a season.
