Kohli (RCB Twtitter)
Virat Kohli has played seven matches till now in IPL 2022, so we can say he has played almost half the tournament and honestly his performance has been below average. As of now, he has scored 119 runs at an average of 19.83 and a strike rate of 125 in seven matches. These stats are even worse than last year. And if he continues to play like this, he will be unlikely to reach 300 runs mark this year.
When we look at his knocks, we can see that two of them were quite good. He scored 41* against Punjab Kings and 48 against Mumbai Indians, respectively. There was one thing that both knocks had in common. He formed a partnership with an opener in both of them. It was with Faf in the match against PBKS and Anuj Rawat in the match against MI.
Read Faf du Plessis back in form?
One thing is evident from this. After the Openers fall cheaply, he is putting himself under unnecessary pressure. Two of his innings against RR and DC were cut short due to a careless run-out. Both were unnecessary runs and he could have played a long inning in both cases.
Read Can RCB win the IPL 2022?
In the Match Against CSK too, he threw his wicket. That time, the team was in a bad situation in a huge chase. Kohli had the chance to play a match-winning knock, but he lost his wicket cheaply by playing a shot at the start of his innings. Even after all that, RCB managed to reach quite close in the chase.
This isn’t the same RCB team anymore which used to have no batting beyond Kohli and ABD. This season they have a very dependable and in-form batsman in the middle order and lower order. They have Dinesh Karthik, who is smashing the bowlers in the death overs. So if Kohli gets set, surely scoring 50-60 runs in the last 5 overs will not be that difficult.
