Rajathan Royals cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Rajathan Royals may not have qualified for playoffs but the Indian Premier League 2025 biggest revelation so far has been their 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Earlier this season, Suryavanshi slammed a 35-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur and that is no small feat for a 14-year-old. The teenager became the youngest player to score an IPL century while also being the second fastest in the history of the competition to do it. Only West Indian great Chris Gayle has a quicker IPL ton to his name.
Sacrifices By Parents:
The fairytale journey that started from Samastipur, Bihar, has not been easy at all. Born on March 27, 2011, Suryavanshi grew up in a humble farming household. Vaibhav began training at the age of nine, making a 100-kilometer journey from Samastipur to Patna every alternate day for training. But there have been huge sacrifices made by his family. Vaibhav’s father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, once an aspiring cricketer himself, sold off farmland to support his son’s dream and also used to accompany him to trainings and matches. Vaibhav’s mother used to wake up early at 4 am everyday to prepare food for him.
Suryavanshi IPL Selection:
Suryavanshi was selected by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore during IPL Auction. He grabbed eyeballs when he smashed a 58-ball century for India U19s against Australia U19s in an unofficial Test in Chennai. After that, he scored U19 half-centuries against Sri Lanka and UAE as well as 71 off 42 balls for Bihar against Baroda in India’s domestic 50-over competition. Being born in 2011, he also created another record by becoming the first IPL cricketer born after the tournament began in 2008. The previous youngest IPL debutant was Prayas Rai Burman, who featured in 2019 at 16 years and 154 days for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
