team india fail to make it to semis
Team India managed to win their last match against Namibia and end T20 World Cup 2021 campaign on a positive note. But India’s Semi-Final Hopes in the ongoing World Cup were shattered when New Zealand defeated Afghanistan on Sunday. As a result, Kane Williamson led team became the fourth team to qualify for semis.
Let’s take a look at reasons behind India’s early exit from the Tournament-
1. Top Order failure: India’s openers did perform well against Scotland, Namibia and Afghanistan. But when it was needed most against teams like Pakistan and New Zealand, they got dismissed quite early putting pressure on middle order. Even Ishan Kishan was brought into the team in place of Suryakumar Yadav but the move did not work.
2. Kohli can’t win Toss: It was clearly visible that there was an advantage for the team batting second than Team batting first. Unfortunately, Team India captain Virat Kohli was not able to win toss in the crucial games and it turned out to be a huge disadvantage for India.
3. Bowlers Went Wicketless: In this format, picking up wickets consistently plays a vital role in reducing opposition flow of runs and putting pressure. In the first match, India could not pick up even a single wicket and then managed to dismiss only one Kiwi batsman in the following match. Apart from poor bowling, the field setting was also not right.
4. No Break b/w IPL and World T20: Just two days after the Indian Premier League finished, Team India players started practicing and did not have any rest before this important tournament. BCCI should have kept this mind while looking at the scheduling as playing without a break could take a toll on players mentally and physically.
5. Poor Selection: The likes of in form players like Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad were missing and when the final playing 11 was chosen against Pakistan, many fans were left surprised. Varun Chakravarthy was chosen ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Chahar. The decision proved to be wrong and they had to bring in Ashwin and Chahar in the next few matches but it was too late till then.
