Rohit Sharma Slams Shastri’s ‘Rubbish’ Assertion

The former head coach of the Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri, may not be pleased to hear that the current captain, Rohit Sharma, referred to him as an “outsider”. Shastri held the position of head coach for six of the seven years between 2014 and 2021.

Prior to the fourth and final Test in Ahmedabad, Rohit dismissed Shastri’s comment that India lost the third Test against Australia in Indore due to “overconfidence”. Shastri had made the statement while providing commentary for Star Sports after India’s nine-wicket loss to Australia on a turning pitch. Rohit, known for his calm and composure, was firm in his response to the former coach’s assessment of the team’s performance.

Rohit Sharma terms the statement as “Rubbish”

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, expressed his disagreement with the notion that his team was overconfident after winning the first two games of a four-game series. He called such claims “rubbish”, asserting that the team aimed to win all four games and not just settle for two victories.

Rohit went on to state that those who criticized the team’s mindset from the outside, without being part of the team’s dressing room, lacked insight into the team’s discussions and preparation. This statement echoed a comment commonly made by Rohit’s predecessor, Virat Kohli, about people who are not involved with the team’s internal workings.

The Indian cricket team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, responded sharply to comments made by former head coach Ravi Shastri. Shastri had previously served as the team’s strategic planner and an enthusiastic supporter of the players.

Rohit asserted that the team aimed to perform to the best of their abilities in all four games of a series and did not concern themselves with external perceptions of their confidence level. However, it is possible that Rohit was irritated by the fact that Shastri, who was familiar with the workings of the team, could have shown more understanding in his choice of words.

Rohit Sharma stresses ruthlessness in cricket

During a press conference, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the mindset that the team strives to maintain. He highlighted the importance of being ruthless and not overconfident, particularly when playing away from home. Rohit noted that former head coach Ravi Shastri, who had worked closely with the team, understood the players’ mindset and could attest to their competitive nature.

According to Rohit, the team aims to maintain a mindset of not giving an inch to the opposition, particularly when playing overseas. The captain emphasized that this mindset was essential in ensuring success in cricket.
