Punjab Kings might not win this season according to Sunil Gavaskar

In just a few hours, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season will begin. Two new teams will join the league this season. Every team has a number of match-winners, and every team has a strong roster. But according to  Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian captain, Punjab Kings might not be able to win the trophy due to a lack of impact players.

At the same time, he added that the Punjab Kings could surprise a few people as well in the tournament, but to see them win the tournament looks unlikely at this point.

Low expectations = Low Pressure

Gavaskar cited Punjab Kings as one of the teams that have failed to win the IPL. He believes their squad lacks an impact player this time, but this could help the team as well. Additionally, he explained that low expectations lead to a lower level of pressure, and when the pressure is low, players are freer to approach the situation. In response to the question of whether the Kings will win this season, Gavaskar said he doubts it. As a T20 format, he says that you need to be in a winning cycle consistently.

Punjab Kings purchased players such as Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, and Shahrukh Khan during the mega auction. In addition, Shikhar Dhawan was signed as an opening batter. Mayank Agarwal will head the Punjab side this season. In their opening game on March 27, the Punjab Kings will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
