Neeraj Chopra Gold in Olympics
Neeraj Chopra made the country proud by winning the men’s Javelin Thow Final on Saturday with the best throw of 87.58 metres . Chopra created history and became the first person to win gold medal for India in Athletics. Vadlejch of Czech Republic won silver medal with a best throw of 86.67 metres whereas Vesely won the bronze medal with best attempt of 85.44 metres.
Neeraj hails from Panipat and his father is a farmer. He used to be overweight before his uncle took him to local gym and asked the trainers to get his fitness back on track. Chopra is an alumni of DAV College, Chandigarh and is currently a Subedar with 4 Rajputana Rifles in the Indian Army.. He started training SAI Centre in Panipat, then Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula and NIS Patiala. Neeraj is the first Indian athlete who has won gold in javelin throw at Asian as well as Commonwealth Games. He victories came during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, and also in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. In the 2016 World Junior Championships in Poland, Neeraj became the first Indian competitor to win a junior world title in athletics.
Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh declared a reward of Rs. 2 crore for Neeraj Chopra on his win in Tokyo Olympics. In his speech, Amarinder said that it is a proud moment for India and all Punjabis because the family of Neeraj traces its roots to Punjab. To add to that, Chopra’s training also takes place most often at NIS Patiala. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also announced a cash reward of Rs. 6 crore for the athlete on Saturday. Not only this, Haryana CM also said that Neeraj would be made head of the Centre for Excellence in Athletics which is coming up in Panchkula. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) too declared a cash reward of Rs 1crore for Neeraj on his remarkable performance. IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings also announced a reward of Rs 1crore for the athletics superstar. India’s Private Airlines IndiGo announced also joined others and offered unlimited free travel for 1 year to Neeraj on his big victory at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.

Neeraj became part of Indian Army in 2016 under the sports quota. He was initially designated as Naib Subedar but later promoted to Subedar. He got selected in Indian amy’s mission Olympics wing and received several accolades including the Arjuna Award in 2018 for his contribution to sports.
