New IPL record by Jasprit Bumrah

Finally, Jasprit Bumrah is back in his form. Mumbai Indians and even the Indian team were a bit tensed by looking at Bumrah’s form this season as he did not play how he should have. Jasprit Bumrah of the Mumbai Indians scythed through the Kolkata Knight Riders batting order on Monday to set a new IPL bowling record. The 28-year-old Indian bowled a triple wicket-maiden over at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai to stop the opposition to 165/9.

New Record by Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah, who grabbed his maiden fifer, bowled five overs for five wickets and 18 dot balls, the most in IPL history by an Indian bowler. The previous best bowling performance among Indian pacers was Ishant Sharma’s 5/12. Only Anil Kumble has conceded less runs in an IPL match. The renowned spinner was 5/5 against the Rajasthan Royals in 2009.

Bumrah is presently placed sixth in the IPL’s all-time bowling rankings. Alzarri Joseph, who got 6/12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019, leads the panel. While Kolkata’s openers Venkatesh Iyer (43 off 24 balls) and Ajinkya Rahane (25 off 24 balls) combined for 60 runs, Bumrah’s fifer slowed down the opposition, which was losing wickets at a rapid pace.

Bumrah also became one of just a few IPL bowlers to bowl a triple-wicket maiden. He is the only Mumbai Indians bowler to reach the milestone, following Lasith Malinga. When questioned about his bowling during the innings break, Bumrah said it was lovely. He sought to take use of the dimensions of the ground. He also stated that when things are going well, it’s critical to be at the moment and not overdo things. Furthermore, he enjoys assisting the team and having an impact.

Bumrah’s performance

Jasprit Bumrah bowled just one over in the powerplay before returning to the attack at a time when KKR were looking to accelerate. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell looked dangerous in the middle, but Bumrah dispatched them both in his second over.

Russell was outsprinted by Jasprit Bumrah’s pace, and the big KKR batsman could only hit it to Kieron Pollard at long-on. In the same over, Bumrah bowled a devastating short ball that Nitish Rana nicked to Ishan Kishan behind the stumps.

In his third over, Jasprit Bumrah did even more damage to KKR. Sheldon Jackson, who was struggling, thought it would be a good idea to go after Bumrah, but he was caught off a short ball by Daniel Sams. Bumrah then grabbed Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine off successive deliveries in the 18th over, leaving KKR stunned.
