RR vs GT Match Highlights: The Gujarat Titans ascended to the top of the IPL 2022 table following a 37-run victory against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Hardik Pandya shined in all three sides as the Gujarat Titans skipper led his team to a 37-run victory at the top of the table.

With 193 runs to chase, Jos Buttler had an immediate impact, hitting five fours and a six in the first two overs. Yash Dayal got his first IPL wicket when Devdutt Padikkal was caught on the first delivery he faced. Buttler continued to hit boundaries after smashing three fours and a six against Dayal in the third over. Before being caught by Miller, Ravichandran Ashwin, who had been elevated to the top of the order, blasted a sixer. Buttler completed his half-century in just 23 deliveries, but a slower yorker from Lockie Ferguson struck his stumps.

In the seventh over, RR skipper Sanju Samson hit his first six of the innings, but his innings was cut short by a bullet throw from Hardik Pandya. Rassie van der Dussen was the second batsman to be out, caught behind for six runs by Dayal’s bowling. With Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag at the crease, RR needed 91 runs off the final eight overs. 

Hetmyer smashed two fours and a six against Shami, but the bowler took advantage of his pace and forced the batsman for a mistimed hit, and Hetmyer was caught in the deep. To dismiss Neesham, the GT skipper delivered the 18th over and grabbed a catch off his own bowling. The last over required 40 runs for RR. As RR fell 38 runs short of the target, Dayal took his third wicket of the innings.

Gujarat Titans were successful in setting a high target

At the completion of the powerplay, GT was 42/2. In the following over, Riyan Parag gave up a six and a four, but was able to remove Shubman Gill as the right-handed batsman was dismissed. GT were 87/3 at the conclusion of 12 overs, thanks to skipper Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar. In the 13th over, Abhinav Manohar smashed a four and a six against Chahal. Hardik continued the momentum into the following over, hitting three fours to reach his half-century.

Pandya scored 16 runs in the 15th over after smashing back-to-back sixes against Ashwin. When Abhinav was caught for 43 by Ashwin, Chahal terminated the partnership. In the last over, David Miller added the icing to the cake, slamming five fours and one six for a total of 21 runs. Hardik Pandya stayed unbeaten on 87 to help GT reach 192-4. Overall, The Titans showed what power they have in their batting. Despite the fall of wickets at the beginning, they managed to set a high score on the board.
