Chasing 190 for a victory, Gill was out in the 19th over after hitting 11 fours and a six, and his skipper Hardik Pandya (27) was out in the last over as the Titans needed 12 runs off the last two balls. Tewatia (13 not out off 3 balls), who is known for smashing massive sixes in tight situations, smashed the final two balls delivered by Odean Smith for maximums, giving the Titans their third straight win.

Sai Sudharsan, who was making his debut, got off to a strong start, hitting two fours, and GT was 53/1 at the end of the powerplay. GT was 94/1 at the midway point, thanks to a fifty-run partnership for the second wicket. While Sudharsan played the second fiddle, Gill kept the tempo with GT by sustaining the flow of boundaries from one end. PBKS ultimately broke the partnership when Sudharsan was caught by Mayank Agarwal off the bowling of Rahul Chahar, and GT needed 56 off the final five overs.

Punjab did their best

After being asked to bat first, Livingstone, who cost Rs 11.5 crore, blasted 64 off 27 balls to score the majority of Punjab Kings’ runs. In the 18th over, Arshdeep Singh (0/31) bowled brilliantly, giving just five runs and allowing the Titans to score 32 runs in the final two overs. After his skipper struck two fours off Kagiso Rabada (2/35), Gill was out in the final over of a close finish.

Earlier, Liam Livingstone, the most expensive foreign player in the IPL, took advantage of a lucky chance to smash a second consecutive half-century and help Punjab Kings set a high score. After Rahul Chahar scored significant runs with two fours and a six towards the conclusion of the first innings, PBKS finished with a total of 189/9.
