Tata IPL Auction 2022: Full Squads of all 10 Teams

The Mega Auction of Tata IPL 2022 proved to be a fascinating one. It was the 2nd time that IPL introduced 10 teams in the tournament. Earlier in 2011 there were 10 teams where there were dissolved teams like Pune Warriors India (PWI) (*till 2013) & Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) (*2011). The two new teams which now have been added are: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owned by the Goenka Group for a whooping 7,090 Crores & Gujarat Titans (GT) owned by the CVC Capital Firm for an eye-boggling 5,625 Crores.

The bidding flags of 10 IPL teams for the Tata IPL Auction 2022.

Tata IPL Auction 2022 gave a sure-shot idea about each & every team’s composition. The squad of each & every team is as follows:

(i) Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK’s expensive cricketer proved to be the fast bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar. He was picked for a huge 14.0 Crores, his base price was 2.0 Crores. There was an intriguing bidding war between Rajasthan Royals (RR) & CSK.

CSK flabbergasted everyone by not bidding for Suresh Raina. He is often regarded as Mr. IPL & his omission has sent clear signs that his career is over.

CSK made sure that the core of the squad is same as the likes of Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo & earlier CSK had retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suresh Raina & the “Thala” MS Dhoni. CSK looks a formidable team to beat as now they have got the elegant Devon Conway for the base price of 1.0 Crore. CSK didn’t go for the flamboyant Faf du Plessis & now that void is there to be filled by the most likely opening pair: Ruturaj Gaikwad & Devon Conway.

CSK would be happy with the auction as they have got a team to defend Tata IPL 2022. CSK’s strategy from the start has been to trust the process & not focus on results. CSK’s fans would hope that MS Dhoni would play his final match in Chennai which currently looks unlikely as BCCI is looking to stage IPL in Mumbai due to the threatening rise of Covid-19.

Squad: MS Dhoni (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Subranshu Senapati, Hari Nishanth, Robin Uthappa. N Jagadessan, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Chris Jordan, Bhagath Varma, Mitchell Santner, Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorius, Maheesh Theekshana, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Simarjeet Singh, Adam Milne, Mukhesh Choudhary, Prashant Solanki, Tushar Deshpande, KM Asif & Deepak Chahar.

(ii) Delhi Capitals (DC)

DC’s would be over the moon as David Warner the Man of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is a part of the setup. The left handed dashing opener was sold for 6.25 Crores. DC’s squad looks dangerous one as they have got all the bases covered. DC’s management have got the skipper of Under-19 World Cup winning batter: Yash Dhull. DC have a history of successful investments in youth as the recent example is of Prithvi Shaw who was picked in 2018 by DC. They got the tyro batter for 50.0 Lakhs & now it can be said that the next star would be in the making when Tata IPL 2022 kick-starts.

DC’s squad looks to turn the tide & take a step forward by winning their maiden IPL title. Since their change of name in 2018 from Delhi Daredevils (DD) to Delhi Capitals (DC); they have made it to play-offs for 4 times (*2019, 2020 & 2021). Ricky Ponting the Head Coach of DC have done remarkably well as they have good mixture of youth & experience. The base of DC throughout the last recent years has been investing in the youth which indeed has kept them in a good place.

Before the start of Auction DC took a bold step by letting Shreyas Iyer go. He was one of DC’s major turnaround, yet the management showed faith in the rising Rishabh Pant. The wicket-keeper batter was the skipper for the 2021 edition as Shreyas was injured. DC’s mindset throughout the auction was crystal clear as they grabbed Australia’s one of the main reason behind their triumph in ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Mitchell Marsh; he was bought for 6.50 Crores from a base price of 2.0 Crores. Another aspect of DC’s squad as they have got speedsters present in the form of Anrich Nortje & Lungi Ngidi which makes them a deadly combo. DC’s fans would be optimistic than ever as their squad which may be early to say but a Champion one.

Squad: Rishabh Pant (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Mandeep Singh, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, Sarfaraz Khan, Ashwin Hebbar, David Warner, Tim Seifert, Srikar Bharat, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Vicky Ostwal, Ripal Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungi Ngidi, Chetan Sakariya, Praveen Dubey, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur & Mustafizur Rahman.

(iii) Mumbai Indians (MI)

MI as usual had a terrific auction. MI got Ishan Kishan for an unexpected price of 15.25 Crores, his base price was of 2.0 Crores. MI had a bidding war with Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT) & Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH). MI would be relieved as Ishan Kishan didn’t shift base as he has been since the team since the edition of  2018.

MI’s strategy this time was a bit strange as they invested in Singapore Born Tim David for 8.25 Crores, his base price was of 40 Lakhs only which amazed everyone. The inclusion of the pinch hitter has been playing around the globe since the last couple of years, He was a part of RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) in the second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE. Along with him Fabian Allen too was picked, the spin bowling all-rounder is too a force to reckon with. He was sold to MI for 75 Lakhs. MI’s scouting team went for England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer. There is uncertainty regarding his participation as he is nursing an injury, yet MI got him for 8.0 Crores. The base price of the fast bowling sensation was 2.0 Crores.

MI’s Auction in general was pretty good. They have made it clear that they are in no mood to have an off season like 2021 where they failed to defend their title. MI’s squad looks dangerous as ever as they have champion players who can change the course of the match quite quickly. It would be a surprise if MI won’t make it to the play-offs given the squad they possesses.

Squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain),Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ramandeep Singh, Rahul Buddhi, Anmolpreet Singh, Dewald Brevis, Aryan Juyal, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hritik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Sanjay Yadav, Daniel Sams, Tim David, Fabian Allen, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Arshad Khan, Jaydev Unadkat, Mayank Markande, Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills, Riley Meredith, Murugan Ashwin & Basil Thampi.

(iv) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR signed Shreyas Iyer for 12.25 Crores, he can be the skipper in the upcoming edition. KKR have taken a step backwards as they have included Ajinkya Rahane for 1,0 Crore. KKR went smoothly with the auction as typically their focus was on the overseas players, Sam Billings the wicket-keeper got drafted in the squad for the base price of 2.0 Crores

KKR would rue the fact that they missed for the glory in 2021 edition. They were one of the teams to beat when the lucrative tournament was shifted to UAE. KKR would be happy that they have got an attacking opener in the form of Alex Hales for the base price of 1.50 Crores. He has been playing franchise Cricket since his omission by ECB (England Cricket Board) as he was found positive for consuming a banned substance, just before the start of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He would be hoping that he has a wonderful Tata IPL 2022 as the selectors are blatantly ignoring him.

KKR as usual have the power-hitters present in the form of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine (*Off spinning bowler all-rounder) & Mohammad Nabi (*signed for 1.0 Crore as the base price was of 1.0 Crore). KKR’s auction panned out to be a fantastic one as now they have got a team who can challenge the opponent on any deck irrespective of having home/away advantage. KKR would hope that their title drought period of 7 years as the last time when KKR won IPL was way back in 2014.

Squad: Shreyas Iyer(*most probably the Captain, KKR have not named yet the Captain for Tata IPL 2022), Baba Indrajith, Pratham Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Abhijeet Tomar, Alex Hales, Aman Hakim Khan, Sheldon Jackson, Sam Billings, Andre Russell, Venkatesh Iyer, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Nitish Rana, Mohammad Nabi, Varun Chakravarthy, Chamika Karunaratne, Ashok Sharma, Rasikh Salam, Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav & Pat Cummins.

(v) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH’s expensive player proved to be the scintillating Nicholas Pooran. The bold wicket-keeper was paid 10.75 Crores, the base price was of 1.50 Crores. SRH have showed faith in their policy of investing in bowlers as their bowling unit looks a well composed one. They have the likes of T Natarajan (*4.0 Crores), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (*4.20 Crores),Kartik Tyagi (4.0 Crores), Shreyas Gopal (70 Lakhs). SRH had an off color 2021 where they failed to reach play-offs, it was their first time since 2016 where they failed to reach the latter stage of tournament.

SRH this time have invested in overseas fast bowlers. Marco Jansen of South Africa got 4.20 Crores, his base price was 50 Lakhs. Sean Abbott of Australia earned good bucks in the form of 2.40 Crores , as his base price was 75 Lakhs. The spin bowling all-rounders in the form of Abhishek Sharma & Washington Sundar earned big money. Abhishek Sharma got 6.50 Crores (Base price was of 20 Lakhs) & Washington Sundar got 8.75 Crores (Base Price was of 1.50 Crores).

Before naming the retentions SRH made it clear that they didn’t wanted to extend the journey with David Warner. SRH shockingly dropped him from matches & gave the baton to Kane Williamson. It may sound rude yet SRH were quite ruthless with Warner who was the captain in 2016 who took them to glory. On the other hand Kane Williamson too had did a commendable job in 2018 where he took team to the finals of IPL. SRH would hope that the players forget about the past as their team may be low on star players but they are capable of defeating any side on their day. Kane Williamson would hope that team gels quickly as IPL doesn’t give you much time & most importantly believe that they shrug off the controversies.

Squad: Kane Williamson (Captain), Aiden Markram, Shashank Singh, Ravikumar Samarth, Rahul Tripathi, Priyam Garg, Glenn Philips, Vishnu Vinod, Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, Marco Jansen, Sean Abbott, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, Saurabh Dubey, Romario Shepherd, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Jagadessha Suchith, Shreyas Gopal, Kartik Tyagi, T Natarajan & Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

(vi) Rajasthan Royals (RR)

RR had one of the most productive auction amongst the rest of the franchises. RR got the powerful batter Shimron Hetmyer for 8.50 Crores (*base price was of 1.50 Crores). The expensive player though astonished everyone, he was Prasidh Krishna. The sly fast bowler was paid for 10.0 Crores (*base price was of 1.0 Crores). The reason behind his price hike was his recent performance against West Indies in the 3rd ODI. He ripped off West Indies batting unit.

RR got Trent Boult in their mix for 8.0 Crores (*base price was 2.0 Crores). The experience which the left-handed bowler possesses is invaluable, he has been part of a Champion Team in the form of Mumbai Indians. RR would be booming with the confidence as they got the shrewd Yuzvendra Chahal for 6.50 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). The eclectic leg spinner would be happy that he now won’t bowl at the run fest stadium of Bangalore. The dexterous spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was picked for 5.0 Crores (*base price of 2.0 Crores). The inclusion of Chahal & Ashwin makes RR’s spin unit a lethal combo.

RR have got New Zealand’s finest finishers ever in the form of Daryl Mitchell & James Neesham. The left handed all-rounder has quite experience of playing in IPL. RR’s squad has depth which makes them a tough opponent. RR would hope & believe that they make it to play offs & win the glorious IPL Trophy. They have not won IPL since the inaugural edition of 2008.

Squad: Sanju Samson(*Captain is not declared officially, yet most likely Sanju Samson is the most likely candidate to get the nod), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair, Rassie van der Dussen, Devdutt Paddikal, Shimron Hetmyer, Jos Buttler, Dhruv Jurel, Anumay Singh, James Neesham, Daryl Mitchell, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shubham Garhwal, Kuldip Yadav, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Sen, Obed McCoy, Tejas Baroka, KC Cariappa, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna & Trent Boult.

(vii) Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

RCB’s expensive player proved to be Harshal Patel for 10.75 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). The fast bowling all-rounder would be grinning as in 2021 edition he had won the purple cap as he took 32 wickets from 15 matches. RCB got the impeccable Josh Hazlewood for 7.75 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). The speedster’s presence is an indication that RCB needed a proper new ball bowl who can swing the ball both the sides.

RCB as usual are batting heavy side as they have got the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell. The new addition to RCB’s batters is Faf du Plessis who was signed for 7.0 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). It can be said that Faf would take care of opening slot as he has tremendous experience in it. Dinesh Karthik was signed for 5.50 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). In the spin bowling department RCB went for the foxy off spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for 10.75 Crores (*base price was of 1.0 Crore).

In this auction RCB have been smart enough as they have spent the money wisely. RCB had a dream run in 2021 & one bad game against Kolkata Knight Riders resulted as the end of their journey. RCB now need to find a new leader as Virat Kohli earlier had said that he would relinquish captaincy at the end of the tournament. RCB have found a balanced squad & would hope that they their winless phase in IPL. It won’t be easy but given RCB’s squad the fans would believe that they will find a moment of joy in the upcoming Tata IPL 2022.

Squad: (*Skipper is not announced yet & so far no likely candidate) Virat Kohli, Suyash Prabhudessai, Faf du Plessis, Finn Allen, Luvnith Sisodia, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Glenn Maxwell, David Willey, Mahipal Lormor, Sherfane Rutherford, Aneeshwar Gautam, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mohammed Siraj, Karn Sharma, Jason Behrendorff, Siddharth Kaul, Chama V Milind, Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel & Akash Deep.

(viii) Punjab Kings (PBKS)

PBKS had went into auction with a huge purse of 72 Crores. PBKS have got the veteran Shikhar Dhawan for 8.25 Crores (* base price was of 2.0 Crores). PBKS now have found an almost ideal opening partnership in the form of Mayank Agarwal & Shikhar Dhawan. The buoyant finisher Shahrukh Khan was signed for 9.0 Crores (*base price was of 40 Lakhs). The resounding finisher recently has been famous for his heroics in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final where he smashed a 6 on the final ball where 5 runs were required.

PBKS made sure that they have a back-up opener present in the form of Jonny Bairstow. The wicket-keeper batter was signed for 6.75 Crores (base price was of 1.50 Crores). The inclusion of the aggressive wicket-keeper batter is a clear-cut indication that PBKS want big runs from the top-order. PBKS may be once again heading into wrong direction as their main nemesis has been the middle order. In order to rectify their previous mistakes PBKS have signed Benny Howell of England for 40 Lakhs (*base price was of 40 Lakhs). England’s one of the big hitters Liam Livingstone comes in PBKS’s squad. PBKS signed him for a massive 11.50 Crores ( base price was  of 1.0 Crore).

PBKS have signed Kagiso Rabada for 9.25 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores), Jonty Rhodes of PBKS’s management said that the role of the fast bowler would be to pick wickets in power-play overs. PBKS’s spin unit got bolstered as they got Rahul Chahar for 5.25 Crores (*base price was of 75 Lakhs). PBKS now would be hoping that the team performs better than ever. Every-time PBKS showcases potential, delivers unbelievable performances & shatters everyone but fails to make it to the Play-Offs which now PBKS doesn’t happen.

Squad: (*Skipper is not declared yet, nor any likely candidate) Mayank Agrawal, Prerak Mankad, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shahrukh Khan, Shikhar Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Benny Howell, Baltej Singh, Ansh Patel, Liam Livingstone, Rishi Dhawan, Atharva Taide, Arshdeep Singh, Writtick Chatterjee, Odean Smith, Sandeep Sharma, Raj Bawa, Nathan Ellis, Vaibhav Arora, Ishan Porel, Harpreet Brar, Rahul Chahar & Kagiso Rabada.

(ix) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

LSG made a good decision as they signed Quinton de Kock for 6.75 Crores (* base price was of 2.0 Crores). The left handed wicket-keeper batter has been a part of multiple triumphs with Mumbai Indians (MI). He knows how a team reaches a culminating point which makes him a vital set. The express pace of Avesh Khan proved to be too hot as he was the expensive player. He was signed for 10.0 Crores (*base price was of 20 Lakhs)

The overseas expensive player was the energetic & athletic Jason Holder for 8.75 Crores (*base price was 1.50 Crores). The lanky all-rounder is a vital cog as he can be a middle order batter & a finisher too which makes him a complete package. LSG emphasized on all-rounders as they signed Krunal Pandya for 8.75 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores) & Deepak Hooda for 5.75 Crores (*base price was of 75 Lakhs). LSG’s management were quite spot on with their choices.

LSG bought England’s fast bowler Mark Wood for 7.50 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). His presence means LSG wants express pace to dismantle the opposition. Ankit Rajpoot who has been in IPL since last 4-5 was bought for 50 Lakhs (*base price was of 20 Lakhs). LSG would be more than happy as of now they have got the team which can excel & most importantly make it to the Play-Offs. It may sound a bit early but LSG look quite ominous.

Squad: (*Skipper is not announced yet) Manan Vohra, Evin Lewis, Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers, Karan Sharma, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ayush Badoni, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Jason Holder, Ravi Bishnoi, Dushmantha Chameera, Shahbaz Nadeem, Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot, Avesh Khan & Mark Wood.

(x) Gujarat Titans (GT)

GT’s most expensive player proved to be Lockie Ferguson. He was bought for 10.0  Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). His inclusion is a huge boost as he not only is a terrific death bowler but also a good new ball bowler. Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad was signed for 30 Lakhs (*base price was of 30 lakhs). The left  arm wrist-spinner who is just 17 years old won’t be able to believe that he has an IPL Contract. His spin bowling is so far called mysteries as his wrist movement is quite quick.

Mohammed Shami was signed for 6.25 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). The fast bowler’s spot on Yorkers makes him a must in the playing 11, as well as he can trouble the batters with swing bowling. The leg spin bowling all-rounder Rahul Tewatia was bought by GT for 9.0 Crores (*base price was of 40 Lakhs). The left-handed batter can prove to be a game changer as his loft shots are a treat to watch. Wriddhiman Saha was bought for 1.90 Crores (*base price was of 1.0 Crores). He can be the wicket-keeper as well as a handy opener.

GT also bought an overseas wicket-keeper in the form of Matthew Wade for 2.40 Crores (*base price was of 2.0 Crores). Who can forget the wicket-keeper’s brilliant ICC Cricket World Cup 2021 Semi Final where he smashed Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi to seal the match. The left-handed wicket-keeper batter can be a finisher as teams badly need someone who can wrap up the game. GT’s squad can trouble the opponent teams as they have got what it takes to beat IPL teams.

Squad: (*Officially the Skipper is not announced) Shubhman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani, Jason Roy, David Miller, Matthew Wade, Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya, Dominic Drakes, Vijay Shankar, Jayant Yadav, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Varun Aaron, Darshan Nalkande, Yash Dayal, Pradeep Sangwan, Alzarri Joseph, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmad, Lockie Ferguson & Mohammed Shami
