CBSE Class 10, 12 Result: SC approves modified assessment scheme

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) 10th and 12th Exams scheduled for July have been cancelled and the result would be announced by July 15.Now many students and parents are curious as to how the students will be assessed. Well, the performance assessment of students will be done based on the modified assessment scheme. The assessment scheme of ICSE will be slightly different from the CBSE’s version and it will be notified in some days on its website. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appeared for the Centre and the CBSE in the Supreme Court on Friday. SC permitted the Centre and the CBSE to cancel the remaining board examinations due to the current situationand allowed to its modified scheme to award marks to students for the cancelled papers scheduled to be held in July.

The Following is the modified assessment scheme of CBSE-

Those students who have attended exam for more than three subjects in their Class 10 and 12 board examinations will be marked for pending papers on the basis of an average that means it will be calculated by noting the total marks scored in top three subjects for which examinations have already been held.

For students who have appeared in exams in only three subjects, the average of marks obtained in ‘best two performing subjects’ will be awarded for papers for which exam was not held.

Students who have appeared for only one or two board examination papers so far will be evaluated on the basis of marks scored in the exams plus internal assessment. These students will also be allowed to appear in the optional examinations conducted by CBSE to improve their performance, but only if they wish to opt for these exams and improve their performance. For candidates who do not wish to opt for these exams, marks calculated through the assessment scheme would be considered as final. But according to CBSE notification, only students of Class 12 will have the option of appearing for the pending exams at a later stage, whenever the central government finds the atmosphere is conducive. For candidates in class 10, no further exams will be conducted and the result declared by the CBSE on the basis of assessment scheme will be treated as final.

There has been no update from the Central Government on whether the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test(NEET) and  Joint Entrance Exam(JEE) will be held as scheduled in July. The JEE exam is scheduled to be held between July 18 and 23 and NEET undergraduate entrance examination is scheduled for July 26.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Schools and Colleges have been closed throughout the country since March and online classes having been taking place since then. Exams had also been postponed when the government announced the nationwide lockdown. It is an uncertain time and students, teachers all had also been waiting for a decision since long time and finally some important steps have taken keeping in consideration the current situation.
