On June 29, Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation as chief minister of Maharashtra. Soon after the Supreme Court denied the MVA government’s request for a stay on the floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly, Uddhav Thackeray made his declaration.
Additionally, Uddhav Thackeray left the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Uddhav Thackeray thanked NCP leader Sharad Pawar and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for their support as he announced his choice through a video speech.
According to Thackeray, he is grateful to the NCP and Congress voters for their support. Shiv Sena, Anil Parab, Subhash Desai, and Aaditya Thackeray were only present when the motion was approved; nevertheless, the NCP and Congress members also backed it. He also added that bad luck has struck his government.
Thackeray also stated that he is satisfied that they have officially renamed Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv – the cities named by Balasaheb Thackeray: former Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena leader.
On Thursday, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari requested that Chief Minister demonstrate his majority on the assembly floor. Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu responded by appealing the Maharashtra governor’s order for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to have a floor test in the Assembly to the Supreme Court. The MVA government’s argument, however, was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
In order to demonstrate the government’s absolute majority, the Governor of Maharashtra issued a trust vote notice on Thursday. The notification was issued by governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who was strongly rebuked by the Shiv Sena. Sanjay Raut, a spokesperson for the Shiv Sena, described the governor’s decision as “illegal.” After the discussion with BJP leaders, he said that the governor is operating more quickly than Rafale.
