During Sunday’s first T20I against Ireland, India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar said he enjoyed bowling in favorable cold conditions as the new ball swung early. Despite rain curtailing the first T20I of the two-match series, Deepak Hooda and skipper Hardik Pandya scored blistering knocks that led the visitors to a seven-wicket win. It was determined that as a result of heavy rain, the regulation 20 overs would be reduced to 12 per side with revised conditions. Powerplays ranged from one to four overs, and only three bowlers had the option of bowling two overs and two bowlers had the option of bowling three overs.
During Bhuvneshwar’s three-over spell, he took one wicket and conceded 16 runs. “Yes, I enjoy bowling when there is a bit of swing with the new ball, It gets much better for batting after 4-5 overs. It doesn’t matter what format you are playing, you will get wickets if you bowl Test-match line and length,” said Bhuvneshwar during a post-match presentation. Bhuvneshwar thinks T20 is a format that produces many cricketers. “Umran Malik has made his debut, and a few more are on the way. This is the kind of format that produces many cricketers,” Bhuvneshwar said.

During the fifth delivery of the innings, Bhuvneshwar dismissed Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie, achieving the record for most T20I wickets in the powerplay. It was his 34th T20I wicket in a powerplay. In T20I powerplays, Bhuvneshwar surpassed former West Indies spinner Samuel Badree and New Zealand pace bowler Tim Southee, who both had 33 wickets to their name. Bhuvi is currently considered as a strong contender for T20 World Cup.
