Lights, cameras, and action have been the staple elements of the entertainment industry, but with the rise of Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms, the game has changed. The world of OTT has not only brought new opportunities for storytellers but has also given them a chance for actors to shine. From gripping thrillers to heartwarming dramas, OTT has introduced us to many contents in different languages. 

And with the COVID-19 pandemic closing down theatres, the audience has found solace in binge-watching series and movies from the comfort of their homes. However, this new form of entertainment has also given a fresh lease of life to many actors who were struggling to make a mark in mainstream cinema. In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the actors who have seen their careers soar due to their OTT debut.

1. Pankaj Tripathi

First up is Pankaj Tripathi, a seasoned actor who had played supporting roles in films of various languages until his OTT debut. Tripathi’s portrayal of the mafia don, Kaleen Bhaiya in Mirzapur on Amazon Prime Video, gave him the breakthrough he deserved. He also shone in female-centric films like Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Mimi on Netflix, winning critical acclaim for his performances.

2. Shefali Shah

Then there’s Shefali Shah, an actor who has been in the industry for over 30 years. She rose to fame through her roles in TV series and supporting characters in films until her outstanding performance in Delhi Crime on Netflix. After this hard-hitting series, she appeared in pivotal roles in Jalsa and Darlings.

3. Pratik Gandhi

Next, Pratik Gandhi, a Gujarati actor who started his career in theatre and later played lead roles in several Gujarati films. His nationwide fame and recognition came with his web series Scam 1992, which won many awards and positive reviews. He was then offered roles in many Hindi films.

4. Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen, former Miss Universe and a successful actor of the 90s made a roaring comeback after a five-year gap with her role in Aarya on Disney Plus Hotstar. The show revolves around a widow who joins a narcotics gang and seeks revenge for her husband.

5. Radhika Apte

Last but not least, Radhika Apte, is a successful actress who has played roles in a wide range of films in different languages. Her exceptional acting skills were recognized through her work on OTT platforms, including Lust Stories, Raat Akheli Hai, Monica, O My Darling, Sacred Games, and Ghoul. She effortlessly balances both mainstream cinema and OTT.
